It’s time for a good resource recommendation!  We have been talking about how we are made in God’s image and made to bring glory to God.   Bringing glory to God is simply reflecting the attributes of God to the watching world.  Things like placing others first, walking in love, sincerity and righteousness, pointing people to God and obeying God, are practical ways we reflect God’s image and bring glory to him. Your little ones might need some concrete examples of this, so let me introduce you to two great little books that will help them understand how to live in our world.  There is one for boys, titled God’s Wisdom for Little Boys and one for girls titled, God’s Wisdom for Little Girls.  These books are appropriate for ages 4 and older.

God’s Wisdom for Little Boys

First of all, we have a mix of grandsons and granddaughters in our family, and the boys are the older ones.  So, I’ll introduce you to the books in the order that I discovered them!   The book for boys, written by Jim and Elizabeth George, includes 19 character traits that can help build godly character in your boys.  These character-building rhymes will challenge and encourage your boys to live in a way that pleases God.   Another fun element is the hidden frog in each illustration. You’ll have fun finding those!   Jim and Elizabeth deal with self-control, friendship, being truthful, bravery and kindness, just to name a few.  There is a short Proverb that gives the Biblical foundation for each virtue.  Finally,  use the illustrations as discussion starters to process what might be happening in the life of your little guy!

And God’s Wisdom for Little Girls

The second book, written by Elizabeth George, will help your daughter understand on a very practical level how to best live her life for God.  Elizabeth deals with helpfulness, confidence, thoughtfulness, creativity, and more for a total of 19 traits.  Just like the boy’s version, each virtue goes right back to scripture, this time to Proverbs 31.  Be sure to use the illustrations to discuss temptations common to girls.   Your daughter will learn how scripture addresses her feelings and teaches her how to follow God.  Again, this little book is in rhyme and the cat makes an appearance on all of the pages!  Make a game of finding that cat!
